Frequently Asked Questions

A dental implant is a fitting that is surgically placed into the jawbone, which after a few months fuses with the bone. It essentially acts as an artificial tooth root which can hold single or multiple teeth. It is one of the best alternatives as it simulates the natural tooth environment without compromising the health of the adjacent teeth.
You do not need to be referred to be treated at MDS. We welcome all patients, whether direct or referred. We are able to work closely with your general dentist, dental technician or orthodontist as a referred specialist.
The implant is first surgically placed into the jaw, where it is allowed to heal for 3-6 months. Once the jaw has healed, the crown or bridge is placed using the implant as a retaining foundation. The wait is important as it allows the implant to fuse with the natural bone. No need to worry, before you leave we will fit your gap with a temporary tooth to protect it as well as avoid any discomfort between visits.

Implants can be used to replace a single missing toothmultiple missing teeth or even for a full mouth teeth replacement.

There are many different types of crowns, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The type of material used, the strength of your bite, your diet and/or oral hygiene may affect the longevity of your crown. Please refer to the crowns section of our website to explore different types of crowns.
